EVENT: TUC Activities in the North West

1. Day of campaign activities 12th February
2. Future that Works: a National TUC Rally for Young People - January 29th
3. Transport for the national demonstration

1. North West TUC are proposing leafleting activities in Preston, Manchester, Liverpool (city centre and Liverpool FC v Wigan game) and Chester. Precise details will be released as soon as they are complete, but it would be helpful if you could alert activists and feed back any early indications of likely response. In Manchester on the 12 February it is the United v City Derby game and we are examining the possibilities of leafleting that event.

Before that, on Sunday 16th January, we have the Merseyside Derby match at Anfield and discussions have been had around leafleting that event– if possible can you let me know if you have activists interested in this as soon as possible.

2. TUC nationally were making arrangments for a rally in Manchester on the Saturday, 29th January to highlight the impact of the recession and the coalition cuts on young workers and young people in general. Speakers will include representatives from unions and the TUC, the NUS and other partner organisations. There will also be at least two speakers from union Young Members sections. Details are still being finalised but this will now be an open air rally and all will be welcome.

3. NUT had booked three trains, from Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster. Unite, Unison, and GMB had booked a further three trains jointly and PCS were in discussions with Virgin trains about a possible additional train. At these stage the unions believe the at they will fill all the places with their own members but the NW TUC office stands ready to act as a clearing house if spare places are available. Similarly if other organisations are booking transport and they let the TUC know they will include details on a regularly updated section of the web site and in e mail bulletins.
