They fought for Spain

An exhibition on volunteers from the North West who joined the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War runs from Wednesday 21st to Sunday 25th November.

The opening event will give details of the campaign to establish a local marker to the memory of Joe Fillingham, a citizen of Bury, trade unionist and political activist in the Communist Party who was killed in January 1938 in defense of the republic. The Party has made a donation towards this appeal, and supports the attempts of Bury Trades Council to ensure his life is commemorated.

The event will be held at 7.00 p.m. Wednesday 21st November 2012, the Fusiliers Museum,
Moss Street, Bury
