EVENT: Chorlton March Against the Cuts

Assemble 1pm Saturday 11th June at Chorlton House, corner of Brantingham Rd and Manchester Rd. Chorlton. M21 9UN

Join the Anti Cuts Tour Round Chorlton

1. Save the NHS!
1pm - 1.30pm Rally at Chorlton House

The Tories want to do away with the NHS. Their plan is to 'chop it up and privatise it' by making competition central and opening it up for private providers. Widespread protests have forced the Langley to halt the attacks. Already Manchester NHS has £1 billion of cuts. Edale House, the purpose built mental health unit is threatened with closure, but campaigning has halted this. Hear speakers from health unions, patient groups and campaigners. The Open Voice Choir will perform.

2. Education Cuts Do Not Heal!
2pm outside Oswald Rd Primary School

Rally to support teachers and lecturers who are set to strike on 30th June against cuts to pensions and education. Teachers face pay cuts of £100 a month. EMA grants to students have gone. Homework Clubs at the Library are to be shut. Oppose these attacks on education. Trades unionists from NUT and UCU will be joined by students and parents in a 'speak out' for education and against ignorance.

'Leave school, pay £9,000 a year at Uni, work till your 68, then die. There is more to life than that!' said one year 9 student. He is right! The students of today are the pensioners of tomorrow!

3. Bankers Aid Collection outside the RBS
Our march passes the Four Banks in Chorlton Meet bankers, fat cats, politicians, and millionaires. They will be collecting for themselves. They need bonuses! Remember Eton fees are rising and lifestyles must be maintained. Disabled people's benefits must be cut so the bankers can keep their bonus. 'We are all in it together' after all!

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Lloyds TSB and HBOS had a total of £37bn injected into them - from us the tax payers. It is only fair that those companies who don't pay tax, should not pay tax. Bankers Aid is an agiprop event at which young people will bring a lesson in the economics of the cuts to the people.

4. Save Our Services!
Save Sure Start! Keep All the Libraries Open! Save Manchester Advice!
2.15pm at Chorlton Library, community room, side entrance.

Council Services are being cut back or abolished and thousands of jobs have been cut as £110 million of cuts is passed on to the people of Manchester. Campaigns continue for the Manchester Advice Service, The Youth Service, Sure Start and more. At the Library we will establish a local Chorlton Against the Cuts Group. Refreshments, discussion and more.
