EVENT: Tackling the Cuts – Your Health & Safety at Risk’ Seminar

Date: 28 February 2011
Venue: The Hall, The Mechanics Institute, 103 Princess Street, Manchester M1 6DD
Time: 10am until 1pm

Thompsons solicitors and North West TUC are working together to ensure trades union members’ safety at work which is under threat due to the cuts.

The Con Dem government’s programme of savage cuts has already brought massive job losses and the withdrawal of vital public services to the Region. Combined with proposed legislation, the massive cuts to Local Authority and HSE budgets will put members’ safety and, in some cases lives, at risk in the workplace as employers cut corners, risk assessments are diluted and the HSE’s already limited powers are restricted even further.

The seminar will look at the dangerous effects of the cuts on members’ safety, dispel some of the “elf and safety” myths and consider the increasingly important role of H&S reps, their rights and the laws that they can use to make the workplace safer and to investigate accidents when they do happen.

Each session will include practical steps for unions to take to prepare for what lies ahead.

The seminar is a must for health and safety reps, regional officers, senior and lay union reps.
